Red Hook Lobster Pound

During the summer Tal and I spent a lot of time using our citibike passes and riding around exploring the city. We would ride down the east river to the Southstreet Seaport and explore Smorgasburg, we did our Williamsburg day trip, rode around Central Park, but I really wanted to show him something special - one of my favorite nooks and crannies of New York - Redhook.

We took a cab down to the Pier 16 - Southstreet Seaport and waited for the Ikea water taxi to arrive. The trip only took about 20 minutes. The boat toured downtown past Ellis island and the statue of liberty, when finally the city skyline was just in the distance.

We got off the boat at the first Redhook stop (right before the last stop - Ikea), and walked through the old buildings to the main street. I was so excited to show Tal the Widow Jane whiskey and Cacao Prieto distillery, Steve's Authentic Key Lime pie of Redhook, and most importantly I wanted to take him to my favorite lobster joint, Red Hook Lobster Pound.

Although a little pricey, it is lobster and this lobster is so worth it. I hadent been here in a year and since my last visit they have expanded into the neighboring store, no longer just offering take out, but offering a fully serviced bar and restaurant. The menu has a couple different styles of lobster, as well as other yummie selections. Personally my favorite is the Maine Lobster Roll: Maine Lobster tossed with a touch of homemade mayo piled on to a buttery split-top bun and topped with paprika and scallions. ($21) - YUM!

Red Hook Lobster Pound has recently opened a location in East Village on 16 Extra Place, if you dont want to make the trip to Redhook ( it is a day trip), I highly suggest visiting this New York City nook & cranny.
