Carmine’s - Upper West Side
Enjoy holiday specials on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. The beef tenderloin ($104.95) will be the special on Christmas Eve, and the chicken alla romana ($49.95) will be the star dish on Christmas Day.
The John Dory Oyster Bar - Midtown
Chefs April Bloomfield and Charlene Santiago fete the holidays with a modern take on the Feast of the Seven Fishes. The six-course, seafood-focused affair leads with monkfish torchon (sake, osetra caviar) before turning to a geoduck number (yuzu, watermelon radish) and squid ink noodles floating in dashi broth with quail egg and a spicy chili sauce. The chefs divert from the ocean only for a crispy pork belly dish (served with uni custard), and sweet profiteroles topped with matcha ice cream.
The Palm Court - Midtown West
Make like Eloise at the Plaza Hotel with a special Christmas high tea service served from December 24 through 27. The three-tiered repast includes scones with Devonshire cream and lemon curd, festive pastries (gingerbread macaron, Bûche de Noël) and sandwiches like Christmas ham with hot-buttered rum glaze on a ficelle baguette. Toast the season with a glass of Moët & Chandon rosé or Veuve Clicquot Brut.
Tavern on the Green - Lincoln Square
The Central Park staple is a natural holiday mainstay given its location and grade-A grub dispatched by chef James Stevenson. The three-course yuletide menu comes with a choice of starters (roasted figs, chestnut soup), mains (ham with roasted pineapple, filet mignon with potato croquettes and haricots verts) and desserts (carrot cake, eggnog parfait). Opt for a December 24th seating to save thirty bucks on your feast.
Red Rooster Harlem - Harlem
Marcus Samuelsson’s Harlem haunt will offer a three-course prix-fixe menu in addition to its la carte offerings, with dishes ranging from saucy meatballs to sweet Swedish cured ham. At the same time, downstairs sister venue Ginny's Supper Club will serve a $45 buffet that comes with a cheeses, Nordic gravlax, French toast and hearth-roasted smashed squash. On Christmas Eve only, seven-piece jazz outfit Rakiem Walker Project will take the stage for two live performances at 6:30 and 9:30pm.
Momofuku Ko - East Village
Momofuku boss David Chang does Christmas in style at this dark-wood Bowery counter. The eight-course feast will run you just over two Franklins with a beverage pairing available for an extra $175. Exact dishes have yet to be released, but expect executive chef Sean Gray’s ever-evolving tasting menu with some holiday tweaks. Take note: there are only 22 seats, so make reservations ahead of time.
Mile End Delicatessen - NoHo
Both locations of Mile End are ready for your cool-hunting bubbe with their annual, culture-crossing Jewish-Chinese feast served on both December 24th and 25th. The six-course repast spotlights oddball pairings like dashi imbued with smoked meat and a slow-cooked egg, cumin-smacked wings and smoked duck served with sticky rice, a scallion omelette and Chinese greens.
Chefs Club by Food & Wine - Nolita
The supper club’s resident culinary director Didier Elena takes to the kitchen this Christmas, tapping into his French training under mega-toque Alain Ducasse. On both December 24th and 25th, the restaurant will offer choices like chestnut bisque or foie-gras–quince terrine with toasted brioche for appetizer, and entrées like venison loin with kabocha squash and monkfish cabbage roulade with black-trumpet mushrooms.
Black Tree Brooklyn - Williamsburg
Chef Sandy Dee Hall has your Chinese-and-a-movie tradition taken care of this year—well, the food part, at least. On December 24th and 25th, the farm-to-table Williamsburg outfit will dispatch trumped-up Chinese staples such as beef spring rolls with ricotta and honey (two for $9), duck fried rice with brussels sprouts and pickled kale ($17), and four steamed chicken dumplings with habanero sauce and garlic confit ($8). As for the movie? That’s up to you.
